At the borders between Marche and Umbria, Serra Sant'Abbondio
always represented a passage point for people that moved
from the inland towards the Adriatic Coast.
The town still has the medieval structure of a castle,
with two of the original gates.
Not far from the town, it is possible to visit the ancient
Hermitage
of the Holy Cross at Fonte Avellana, one of the
most famous monasteries in Italy.
